BBC Top Gear Extra Gear host – George Lewis, is a stand-up comedian and writer from Stockport. In the last few years, George has appeared on the BBC New Talent Hotlist, was the winner of Celebrity Mastermind (specialist subject: Oasis), hosted the Britpopcast podcast on Radio X, and has appeared as a regular on ITV2’s The Stand Up Sketch Show.

A hugely talented comedy writer, 2022 has seen the release of George’s debut book Don’t Panic. Acquired by Monoray, Don’t Panic is a hilarious and practical guide for expectant Dad’s and contributions from the likes of Adam Kay, Romesh Ranganathan, Josh Widdicombe, Kerry Godliman and Sindhu Vee.

George has also written for some of the biggest shows on TV and radio, including 8 Out of 10 Cats, Have I Got News for You, Hypothetical, BBC Radio 4. He also has a weekly football column in The Times.

Early in his career, he had successes in several new act competitions, he won the prestigious Amused Moose National New Comic Award, as well as Nando’s New Comedian of the Year, the Brighton Squawker Award, the Comedy Cafe New Act Award and the Comedy Knights Fresh Comedian of the Year. In 2016 he was a BBC New Comedy Award Finalist.

As a presenter, George was named as the new host of Top Gear Extra Gear (BBC Two, Three and Worldwide) in 2017. And for Comic Relief, he has interviewed stars such as Warwick Davis, Gordon Ramsay, Gillian Anderson and Jim Broadbent.
